Let's talk about disrespect, for instance.

While getting into my car at the Speedway this afternoon, I witnessed a woman walking into the store to pay her bill. A man carrying a drink of some kind came out of the store, saw the woman coming ... and just made a right turn and headed for his car. The door to the gas station automatically closed, of course, and the woman had to pull it open herself.

I was stunned. Maybe I shouldn't have been, but my father is always observant of people headed for any door he's going through, holding the door for them quite often like the gentleman he is.

The man I saw at Speedway was not a gentleman. How hard would it have been to toss one arm back and hold the door for the woman coming up the sidewalk? Not hard at all. For me, it would hardly take a second thought.

Philippians 2:3-4
"Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." The New King James Version. Nashville : Thomas Nelson, 1982.

I know, it seems weird to spend a blog on a jerk at a gas station, but maybe it will encourage you to look out for others when you're out there in the world, and to do that one little thing that will make that person's day just a little bit easier.

Hold that door!
