Vexed by an Angel.

The following article attracted my attention this morning:

I've always been bothered by those "gangsta" rappers who spew vile lyrics while wearing a huge silver cross around their necks. I wonder if they truly believe their activities receive approval from the One whom the cross signifies or if there's something else at play.

Now, for a few years, we've been treated to the antics of Criss Angel, who often (in the words of Michael Ammar) uses magic as a sharp stick to poke people with. From the illusion with the tree shredder which made everyone believe he had died for a couple of minutes, to promoting the most awful heavy-metal music while engaging in his bodily suspension from a crane, he constantly wears that big silver cross.

Does the cross mean anything to him? Does he really understand Who the cross stands for? Does it find any way into his soul, or is it just a trinket?

These questions I would love to have Criss Angel answer, because I have a bad feeling about this.

What did you think of this article?

Perhaps - and this is mere speculation - there are versions of Christianity other than yours.

    Just a thought.

And I know (if you even publish this) you will go into some dogmatic rant regarding yours being the only true way, so I hereby vow to not respond to *anything* you say to this comment.

This is a classic liberal tactic. If I say that there might be, as you say, "versions of Christianity" other than mine, then you'll say I'm not being honest to what I believe. If I say that "my" way is the only way, you'll label me as intolerant.

Let me split the horns of your argument -- even though you aren't man enough to actually engage in cogent discussion -- by saying that my concern is with what Jesus said:

"Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not the things that I say? (Luke 6:46)" I don't think it's much of a stretch to believe that Jesus would not be in favor of Criss Angel's promotion of songs like this:

"Right now, Can't find a way, To get across the hate, When I see you
"Right now, I feel it scratch inside, I want to slash and beat you
"Right now, I rip apart the things inside, That excite you
"Right now, I can't control myself, I ****ing hate you

"I'm feeling cold today, Not hurt just ****ed away
"I'm devastated and frustrated, God I feel so bound
"So why'd I feel the need?
"I think it's time to bleed, I'm gonna cut myself, and watch the blood hit the ground."

There are many more examples among their lyrics. This band is just full of hate and vulgarity, combined with a profound sense of despair. I pity them.

But as far as Criss Angel promoting them: Garbage in, garbage out.

How much better this admonition from the Bible:

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." - Philippians 4:8-9

That's all I try to do.

      Write back if you dare.
